A listener writes “I have been struggling with doubt for a long time. I remember praying with my mom at age 7 and asking God to save me. I know that God cannot lie and that when we call upon Him in faith we will be saved. So if I did that as a child why am I questioning my salvation now? What is the description of a body that goes to heaven and one that goes to hell?

A listener in Texas was originally taught the ten commandments as a youth in catholic sunday school. They list #9 as “do not covet your neighbors goods” and #10 as “do not covet your neighbors wife”. Then as an adult I heard that these are really just one commandment and are the real #10, but that the catholics leave out the real #2 which is “do not make for yourselves an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above…” and then make up for it by splitting #10 into two commandments. What about people who have paintings and ceramic statues of angels in their house for decorations? What about paintings of Jesus like the one where His coat of many colors is made of all the flags of the world?

A listener injured himself and a charismatic friend is criticizing him for not praying for a “healing miracle” The caller also is avoiding pain killers because he is concerned about the fact that pharmacoea may have some association with sorcery.

A father wants to know what the Scripture says about dating and kissing before marriage. This Christian man has a 13 1/2 year old daughter (who has professed Christ) and he can tell that she’s getting interested in boys, dating and maybe even kissing a boy. A listener in Pensacola is attending an Independent Baptist church that uses a book entitled “Simple Church” by Rainer and Geiger as a guide. The book’s authors believe that program driven churches these days are too worker intensive and thus recommend some programs be dropped. This listener’s very church has dropped Awana and come January they plan to cease Sunday School classes. The book bases this move from Acts 2 and is pushing small group meetings. Although the listener likes small groups they have been convicted about this because they believe some programs have been quite helpful. They are looking for Pastor Broggi’s thoughts on this.

If God is omniscient how could God say that He was sorry He made man?

A family member is taking care of a disabled relative in their home. The dependent has been physically and mentally disabled from childhood, but was able to work for a number of years until having to retire early on social security disability and also receives a small pension. The dependent is not able to manage their health conditions or finances due to mental disability. The caregiver is using the dependent’s income to pay for the dependent’s living expenses such as medications, food, fair rent, gas, etc. The caregiver also takes into consideration compensation for their time and lifestyle adjustments. If things were calculated based on fair market value, I’m not sure that the income would even cover the above expenses. Should the caregiver tithe the disabled person’s income or a portion of it in some way on behalf of the disabled person? If so, how would one go about figuring this out?

The next caller’s father is a good Catholic man…he believes in Jesus, but the caller wants to make sure his dad is “good to go” to heaven when his time comes.

Since the bible condemns adultery, why was David considered a man after God’s own heart?

A participant in this listener’s Bible study says he believes Jesus is not omnipresent, because he took on the human body. He believes in the trinity and that God the Father and the Holy Spirit are everywere. He seems to think that there is scripture to prove this. I have asked him to show it to me. I have told him that the members of the trinity all have the same attributes, as they are one. Scripture says that God gave Jesus a new body, as we will get at the time of our death or rapture. How would Pastor Broggi explain this.

In 2nd Corinthians 12 regarding the thorn in the flesh this listener heard one speaker talk about this being demons…if this were true, how could Paul say that God said “my grace is sufficient for you.”

If a member of a church tells the pastor that he has unforgiveness and/or anger against another member (as in 1 Cor. 11:27), should the pastor serve him communion?

Regarding the eternal security of the believer, once you have been saved for a period of time….are there no instances when people turn their back on the Lord?

A Christian caller has a friend who was married and divorced before becoming a Christian. The spouse is still living but this Christian would like to know how to counsel the new Christian friend whether or not she is free to marry again. Don’t know whether the ex-husband is a Christian or not.

Matthew 5:22 says, “Burt I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever shall say to his brother ‘Raca,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever shall say, You fool,’ whall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.” Yet the book of Proverbs contrasts the wise and the foolish. Do you have any insight as to how to reconcile these two facts? Is it wrong to call somebody foolish when you believe they are?

My friend asked me if the Harper Collins Study Bible, New Revised Standard Version, was a good study bible. I’m not familiar with study bibles or the New Revised Standard Version. What is your assessment of this study bible? When I looked up this study bible online I saw that some versions include Apocryphal/Deuterocanonical books. I’m not sure if my friend’s version includes these books, but it is my understanding that these books are not part of the bible. Which biles do you recommend? Are some better for new students than others?

Our next caller has an interesting question: If a Christian marries someone but it turns out that the person they married had lied to them and misrepresented themselves (i.e. perhaps their previous marital status for example), is that Christian bound to that marriage?

Another question about marriage. If 2 non-Christians are married and they divorce, but then one of them becomes a Christian and marries another Christian, is it okay for them to marry?

In Luke 23:43 Jesus told one of the men on the cross, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise” but He wasn’t raised from the dead for 3 days, so could Pastor Broggi please explain this?

In Titus 1:6 we are given the qualifications of elders. For the sake of argument, if a pastor is not married but he has many different dating relationships with woman (not even necessarily ones that would compromise his morality), is this pastor in violation of Scripture? We obviously know what the answer is if he’s married, but what if he’s not?

If Paul was a member of the Sanhedrin, didn’t he have to be married? Is it possible he was a widower?

A caller refers to Lev. 25:8 through about 23. They were discussing this in their Sunday school class and want to know if the Year of Jubilee ever took place?

Why did Jesus spend three days and nights in the earth?

A caller is very interested to hear Pastor Carl’s response to the following quote taken from “Israel My Glory”, May/June 2009 issue about the Millennium Kingdom. “Both Jewish and Gentiles will be required to sacrifice animals at the Temple (Isa 56:7; 66:20-23; Jer. 33:18; Ezek. 45:13-17; Mal. 3:3-4). The Lord will appoint a prince to receive the gifts and oversee the sacrifices used “to make atonement” for the house of Israel (Ez 45:15-17, 20). Presented will be burnt, sin, trespass (40:39), grain (45:24), and peace offerings (46:2). Animal sacrifices at the future Temple will not be efficacious, but they will be needed to cover the worshipers’ ceremonial uncleanness. Why? Because God will be dwelling of Earth in the midst of sinful people who live in their natural bodies. The sacrifices will ensure that impure people will not defile God’s holy Temple when coming to worship Him.” End quote. I believe it requires mental gymnastics in explaining the purpose of the sacrifices. John MacArthur teaches the same thing in his Study Bible. This seems to go against everything Paul taught, especially Heb. 9 & 10. This teaching also requires GENTILES to sacrifice in Millennium…..? The listener has been studying eschatology on my own for quite awhile now and wants Pastor Carl’s input on this.

Another caller wants to know whether there is a distinction between the gospel for the Jew and the gospel for the gentile.

Our next caller wants to know where believers who have already died will be during the millenial reign and what will they be doing.

The friend of a listener informed him that he and his fiancee are going to buy a house several months before they get married. They are both cosigning for it. One of the main rationales behind this idea is to stop wasting money on rent and to take advantage of a good deal on a house. In this situation the woman makes the significant majority of the income and would be shouldering the majority of the financial responsibility. This caller’s understanding is that the bible says not to cosign for someone else. It is also my understanding that the bible says that a man who cannot provide for his family is worse than a pagan. The caller wants to know Pastor Carl’s advice would be to a man who is considering doing this?

In Matthew 18:21-22, Peter asked how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Jesus answered, we’re to forgive not seven times but seventy-seven times. A listener understands this but wants to know what to dowhen you are a family of Christians, yet one family member always has the family in turmoil because they constantly criticize one family member to another and will not stop even when asked to do so. Is it scriptural to love a brother, but not want to see them?

Is it wise for the giver to specify foreign missions, home missions, specific countries, or specific missionaries? Is there a distinction between foreign missions and home missions? I have a question about Christians participating in boycotts of non-christian companies that support non-christian principles. I had recently commented to a friend that the PepsiCo boycott I have been participating in has been especially hard since they own so many products that I enjoy. This was her response (quoted from her email to me): “I really struggle with the whole idea of Christians boycotting non-christian companies. Today, I found a scripture that I think addresses it: “I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.” (1 Corinthians 5:9–13, ESV) I was thinking of scripture when Jesus was ridiculed for eating with tax collectors and “sinners”. If Pepsi-Co or any other company claimed to follow Christ in their beliefs and yet supported certain agendas, heinous sinful practices, etc.. I would most certainly boycott them. However, I can’t see the benefit of requiring those in the world to clean up their act morally when it would be to no avail, since it isn’t “good behavior” that wins them favor with God. In fact it would simply be: “having a form of godliness but denying the power of God.” Being “tent builders” alongside those in the world… rubbing elbows with them… gives us an opportunity to display the gospel.. “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” I do realize money that we use to purchase a Pepsi, some of that profit may go to supporting “gay rights.” But every time we pay our taxes we support a gov’t that funds abortions. “Give to Caesar what is Caeser’s..” and spread the glory of the cross to a world in need.” (end quote) While I do not simply boycott every company that does something “bad”, I do find it hard to support any company that so blatantly supports such anti-christian values as the gay rights movement and abortion. I guess being honest, I have held the opinion that all Christians should hold the same view/principle. Could you please tell me your thoughts on this issue??
